An air conditioner is a device which cools the indoor air by removing humidity/heat and depositing it outside. It circulates indoor air and does not bring outside air into the home. A filter in the return air duct is required to keep the air conditioner clean and operating efficiently. You can tell you have an air conditioner system if you have a separate unit for heating (furnace). The outside unit is called the condensing unit. The unit that sits on top of the furnace is called the evaporator coil (A-coil). The condensate line is the pvc drain (clear tubing is used when you have a condensate pump) that runs from the evaporator coil to the outside of the home. The moisture from the sweating of the lines inside of the evaporator coil is drained from the unit by way of the condensate line.
